We got Rebel after we moved to Houston, when Gard was starting to get up in years, on the basis of the belief that having a younger dog around will rejuvenate an older dog. Mostly, having Rebbie around seemed to irritate Gard, who suddenly came to value his privacy even more than he had before. Rebel would follow him everywhere and constantly try to get him to play, and Gard would only very reluctantly cooperate.

Eventually, Rebel got to be about twice the size of Gard.

He was generally an agreeable dog until the topic of mailmen came up. For some reason, the sound of the mailman putting mail in the box on our front porch in Houston made Rebbie go completely “postal.” He would lunge angrily at the low front windows in the living room, and once he actually broke one and went partway through it. Thank goodness for thick fur!
