Editor’s Note
There are books all or most of us grew up with that were important to our turning out the way we did (for better or for worse!). There are probably also books that we’ve read since leaving home that we’d like to share with the family because they possess that ineffable Gumnick philosophical tone or goofy humor. This is the place for them!

The Chronicles of Narnia
by C. S. Lewis

I usually describe the Chronicles to my C. S. Lewis–deprived friends as “containing all of the moral lessons and eternal truths of the Bible, but without that cruel and capricious God character.” Then I usually force a boxed set of the books into their hands and admonish them to get home and start reading, since their moral formation couldn’t possibly be complete up until now!

I would say that I’ve bought at least 10 boxed sets of The Chronicles of Narnia over the years, because I keep giving them to people who “forget” to give them back when they’re done. That’s okay, though—I consider it a corporal work of mercy, like feeding the hungry.

Many titles
by Dr. Seuss

My favorite was “The Sneetches” from the Sneetches and Other Stories, I suppose because I grew up constantly feeling like one of the ones “with none upon thars.” There’s a great list of Dr. Seuss titles at Wikipedia if you want to stroll down memory lane to recall your own favorite.  Hey, this seems like a good place for a poll! I’m starting the polling with ones I remember having as kids, or that were turned into TV shows. If your favorite isn’t one of the choices below, click “edit” and add it to the list, and then vote for it.
