Introduction

I have in mind for this page to be the history of the Gumnick–Lawler branch of the Gumnick family (until we decide otherwise). I’ve added a few items to get the party started. We may have to break this up into shorter periods or something, because even with fairly short entries, it could get really long really fast.

October 30 4 James Louis Gumnick and Jean Kathleen Lawler marry. (One of them needs to help us flesh out the sordid details of that event, since it was a little before our time. )

September 4 4 John Thomas Gumnick is born in Baltimore, Maryland.

January 21 4 Anne Madeline Gumnick is born in Baltimore, Maryland.

January 11 4 Edward Francis Gumnick is born in Baltimore, Maryland.

November 23 4 Mary Jean Gumnick is born in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Month? 4 The Gumnicks (Mom, Dad, and the first four kids, no dogs) move to Broomall, Pennsylvania.

September 4 4 Jane Frances Gumnick is born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

November 11 4 Elizabeth Joan Gumnick is born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

June 15 4 Afternoon—The Gumnick family arrives in Houston on the day of The Great Flood

June 16 4 The wee hours of the morning—After several hours of searching for alternate routes around flooded areas, the exhausted Gumnicks finally arrive at 5510 Yarwell, and the Houston era is begun.

May 17 4 Ed gives the valedictory address at his Westbury High School graduation.

August 4 Ed starts his freshman year at University of Dallas.

Spring 4 Ed spends a semester at the University of Dallas Rome campus.

1984

Summer (month and days?) 4 Mom, Dad, and The Little Girls move to Oak Ridge, TN. Ed accompanies the caravan to TN and spends the summer working there in the temp job from hell, then returns to University of Dallas in the fall.

1985

June 29 4 Anne Madeline Gumnick marries Robert Christopher Swanson at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. See Gumnick-Swanson Wedding.

October 4 Ed moves back to Houston and stays with Anne and Bob until he finds an apartment.

1989

June something 4 Beth graduates from Oak Ridge High School.

1990

Summer 4 Mom and Dad pack up and move to Wichita, KS.

December 10 4 Ed moves into his house on Cordell Street.
